Drywall Screw
Drywall screws are screws designed specifically for attaching drywall panels to wood or metal studs. They typically have a bugle shaped head that helps the screw seat slightly below the drywall surface without tearing the paper facing, which supports proper finishing with joint compound. Drywall screws are commonly available with coarse threads for wood studs and fine threads for light gauge metal studs.
Drywall screws are usually made from steel with a phosphate finish that provides mild corrosion resistance and a surface that works well with drywall compounds and paint. They are not intended for exterior use or for structural wood connections, since their corrosion protection and toughness may not be sufficient for demanding conditions. Selecting the right drywall screw involves matching the thread type to the stud material, choosing the proper length for the drywall thickness, and driving the screw to the correct depth so the head is dimpled without breaking the paper.
