A Pozidriv drive is a cross-shaped screw drive system designed for better torque transfer and reduced cam-out compared to a Phillips drive. It looks similar at a glance, but Pozidriv has additional smaller ribs between the main cross slots, creating an 8-point appearance. Pozidriv sizes are typically marked PZ1, PZ2, PZ3, etc., and many Pozidriv screw heads are identified by small tick marks or extra lines radiating between the main cross recess.

Pozidriv is common in European-made hardware, woodworking fasteners, and certain construction applications where higher installation torque and more consistent bit engagement are helpful. It’s important to match the bit to the drive type: a Phillips bit in a Pozidriv screw (or vice versa) can fit loosely and increases the risk of stripping the recess, especially under power driving. For best results, use the correct PZ size, keep the bit fully seated, and drive straight in line with the screw to maintain full contact.
