Hanger Bolt
Hanger bolts are headless fasteners with two different thread styles on the same shank. One end typically has coarse, wood screw threads designed to bite into wood, while the other end has machine threads meant to accept a nut or to thread into a tapped component. This design lets you create a stud like connection where a fastener needs to be anchored in wood but provide machine thread attachment on the exposed end.
Hanger bolts are commonly used for mounting in wood structures, furniture assembly, handrails, and suspended supports where you want a clean, low profile connection without a bolt head. Installation is often done by driving the wood threaded end into a pilot hole using a hanger bolt driver or by locking two nuts together on the machine thread end to turn the bolt. Selecting the right hanger bolt involves choosing the correct wood thread diameter and embedment depth, the correct machine thread size, and a material or coating suitable for indoor or outdoor exposure.
