Threadlocker
Threadlocker is a liquid or semi-liquid adhesive applied to threaded fasteners to help prevent loosening from vibration, shock, or thermal cycling. It fills the small gaps between male and female threads and then cures into a solid plastic-like material, increasing friction and helping seal the threads against moisture and corrosion. Threadlockers are commonly used on screws, bolts, and studs in machinery, automotive assemblies, and equipment where maintaining clamp load is critical.
Threadlocker products are typically categorized by strength and service requirements. Low-strength formulas are intended for small fasteners and easier removal, medium-strength is a common general-purpose choice, and high-strength formulas are designed for more permanent assemblies and may require heat or higher force for disassembly. Proper performance depends on clean threads, correct application amount, and allowing adequate cure time; some formulations are designed for oily surfaces or faster curing, while others prioritize higher temperature resistance or chemical resistance.
